The football scene in England is something that needs no introduction. To say the least, it is known as one of the top footballing nations in the world, although they have yet to create an impact in the international tournaments. No one can deny that the English Premier League is one of the top football leagues in the world with the likes of superstar footballers like Steven Gerrard, David Beckham, Michael Owen and many many more up in the ranks of great football legends. Therefore to introduce a smaller scale of the game of football might be harder than it seems. Indoor football or Futsal to some people have since picked up in all other parts of the world, particularly in around Asia where the 5 a side World Cup was held in Malaysia recently.

Contrary to most beliefs, futsal is not a new sport. The mini football sport has been played since the 1970s of which it taken up by the FIFA in 1989. World greats like Denilson, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos from Brazil all grew up playing Futsal and in 1989 had the first Futsal World Championship held in the Netherlands. It has been constantly developed and enhanced to what it becomes today. Perhaps due to its smaller in size, easier and fast action paced goals and less players involved, playing Futsal is more convenient compared to the usual 11 a side outdoor pitch football.

While the 11 a side football requires a lot of tactical and strategic plans, futsal is easier to plan and is very much depended on quick reflexes, fast turnarounds and accuracy. To say the least, if you are a great outdoor footballer, Futsal might not be as easy for you. It requires more ball control and definitely more skills to a certain extend. Most futsal lovers in England are essentially football players who uses this sport to further enhance their skills like ball control, kick pressure and such. This is because it is one of the most effective methods used by even the bigger players like Michael Owen.
In England, Futsal is played on a 5 a side concept. It is slowly picking up pace in the country although most would believe that it will not reach its fever pitch like conventional football. The fast paced and energetic game has taken centre stage of late due to the its non-stop goalmouth action which sometimes come scarcely in conventional football. Perhaps due to the wide acceptance of the game in other parts of Europe like Russia, Italy, Portugal and Spain as well as in South America, England is set to follow the trend. Asian countries have since implemented their own Futsal Leagues especially in around Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Iran.

Perhaps the reason why Futsal is more celebrated in Asia compare to Europe is due to the fact that the weather in Asia which are usually hotter than the 4 seasons per year countries makes it difficult and very tiring to play football outdoor. Moreover the players would need to succumb to rain and thunderstorms while playing indoor takes away all that problems. Moreover, it is very difficult to find a full fledge football pitch in certain places while Futsal coach are much easier to organize and requires less space. Compared to England and Europe where the weather are cooler and provides a conducive environment to kick about at any time of the day, popularity of the sport seemed to favour Asian countries better.
